At Lett Chiropractic Center, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic wellness care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different chiropractic services we offer in our Hattiesburg office.
Chiropractors do not use drugs or surgery by choice. Chiropractic is a natural method of healthcare, which seeks to uncover and treat the cause of your condition, not merely the symptoms. It is a healthcare method that includes the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injuries.
The nervous system controls function in the body and is affected by malfunctions, or misalignment in the neuromusculoskeletal system. Chiropractic treatment is designed to reduce joint fixations, improve mobility and relieve pressure, irritation or interference in the nervous system, thus reducing pain and other symptoms.
Our goal is Minimizing Pain (symptoms) and Maximizing Function (by treating the underlying cuase of the symptoms).
Conditions Most Frequently Treated in Our Office
The fundamental chiropractic treatment is the manipulation or adjustment. The adjustment usually involves a quick accurate thrust that helps add motion to spinal joints that aren't moving properly. By reducting irritation to nerves and helping to restore aligment, these adjustments can help improve mobility, and relieve pain and stiffness.
Dr. Lett utilizes different adjusting techniques depending on the patient and condition. One such technique involves a hand held, light force adjusting instrument. This is especially useful when the patient is in intense pain and cannot tolerate traditional manipulation.
Your joints contain fluid that helps keep them healthy and lubricated. This "synovial fluid" contains gas (like carbonation in soft drinks). When an adjustment is made you may hear a "cracking" noise. This is simply the release of gas in the joint, much like when you open a can of soda. This sound is interesting, but isn't a guide to the quality of value of the adjustment.
As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Lett has years of training and experience in spinal adjustment.
To complement and enhance the healing effects of Dr. Gary Lett's specific Chiropractic adjustment treatment, we at Lett Chiropractic Center also provide the following physiological therapeutic procedures:
Intersegmental Traction. This is a mechanical traction table that feels like it is giving you a relaxing massage, while it is actually increasing the flexibility of ligaments and inducing motion in the spine. This aids in breaking up fixations, reduces muscle spasms and edema.
Ultrasound. Treatment is given with a sound-head that is moved gently in strokes or circles over the injured area. The use of sound waves increases absorption of heat to a deeper penetration level. Designed for tissue stimulation to relieve swelling, increase circulation, inhibit/reduce calcium deposits/scar tissue and promote healing.
Therapeutic Activities. One-on-one guidance from the doctor or technician of dynamic activities to include use of balance, strength, range of motion, or functional activities to improve functional performance.
Heat. Moist heat packs are placed on the area of injury or pain. It decreases joint stiffness, pain, and muscle spasms, lessens inflammation and the buildup of fluid in tissues (edema). Heat therapy is used for inflammation and chronic and acute injuries (24 to 48 hours after injury), such as sprains, strains, muscle spasm, back pain, whiplash, and various forms of arthritis.
Ice. Flexible ice packs are applied to the area of injury or pain. It is used for acute musculoskeletal and some neuromuscular conditions. Cold sedates the nervous system, constricts the blood and lymph vessels, reduces muscle tension, pain, muscle spasms and swelling.
Massage therapy offers a natural conservative treatment approach that relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is tailored to meet the patient's condition and injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include increasing blood circulation, reducing swelling, relaxing muscles, relieving muscle pain and spasms, and aid in recovery and
range of motion.
Dr. Lett may recommend therapeutic exercises designed to rehabilitate or re-establish function and integrity to a joint, muscle(s) or area. These are designed to increase joint flexibility, muscle strength, muscle tone, endurance or coordination of movement.
We may teach our patients special exercises tailored to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. Often the exercises must be performed in the office, under direct care of the doctor, to determine the patient's physical ability and to be certain they are correctly done.
When appropriate the doctor will adivse exercise that can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.
We often find it helpful to "coach" our patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently to avoid aggravating their particular health challenge. Our goal is to help every patient achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of the activities they enjoy most. We recognize that each our patient is a whole person, and help them reach true health and wellness is a collaborate effort between our professionals and our patients.
